College Avenue''s Alexander Library was named for Archibald Stevens Alexander and was erected in 1956. Born October 28, 1906, in New York city; graduated Princeton University, 1928; LL.B. (Harvard Law School, 1931); Member, Borough Council and Board of Education, Bernardsville, NJ; Democratic canidate for the United States Senate, 1948 and 1952; President, Free Europe Committee; State Treasurer of NJ, 1954-55; Assistant Secretary and Undersecretary of the Army, 1949-52; Chairman, New Jersey United Negro College Fund; Member, New Jersey State Tax Commission, 1958; Assistant Director of the US Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, 1963-69; Board of Governors, Rutgers University, 1956-73 (Vice-Chairman, 1956-59,1965-71;Chairman, 1959-63, 1971-73).
